Automated opening of packaging
ALS Automatic Logistic Solutions is presenting three innovative solutions for the automatic opening of shipping bags and films at LogiMAT.
Bags and films are increasingly being used for shipping goods. Opening the soft, so-called flexible material poses a considerable challenge for returns processing. The manual opening of flexible packaging is very time-consuming. Machine opening was previously only possible for parcels.
Three machine systems for bag opening
A problem that is now a thing of the past, because ALS, a specialist in unpacking technology, is presenting an innovation that makes it possible for the first time to open shipping bags and films made of soft plastics by machine. Depending on customer requirements, three different machine systems called PEP, PER and DET are used.
The PEP system uses precise gravity mechanics to open polyethylene-propylene mailing bags in such a way that the goods inside are not damaged and can be returned in full.
System PER is used for returns that are disposed of or recycled, as the goods may be damaged during the extremely fast and efficient opening process.
The DET system stands for high-precision de-foiling technology. Goods delivered on pallets and wrapped in film are first measured automatically and then the film is cut precisely using a blade.
In all three systems, goods and packaging are sorted separately from each other and can therefore be fed into the respective recycling cycle. The innovative new additions are therefore not only a milestone in terms of efficiency, but also in terms of sustainability, and patent applications have been filed for the new systems. These solutions will be presented to the public for the first time at LogiMAT.
