Schmalz at the Glasstec

A firm grip on fragility

Vacuum technology is often used to handle glass components without causing damage or leaving marks. Schmalz has the STGG thin glass gripper in its range for this purpose.

Schmalz developed the STGG thin glass gripper especially for the production of TFT displays just 0.1 millimetres thick, for example for smartphones or tablets. With its large suction surface and closely positioned suction openings, it absorbs high lateral forces - resulting in only low surface pressure. To avoid any contamination before or after coating the displays, the contact surfaces are made of contamination-free PEEK. Schmalz also offers a wide range of suction pads made from the low-marking material HT1.

The SGF HS suction plates with particularly large stroke also offer high lateral forces and reliable fixing. The FM1 version with flange module ensures a secure hold and easy installation on the machine table. In addition to the version made of HT1 material, the suction plates are also available in EPDM elastomer. Schmalz will also be exhibiting the articulated holders from the Flexolink series at Glasstec. These allow angled workpieces to be handled reliably using large suction pads or plates.

Vacuum area gripping systems
Schmalz will also be presenting the FXP and FMP vacuum area gripping systems at the trade fair. The user can automatically palletize, depalletize, pick and sort workpieces of different dimensions with just one gripper. Delicate glass can be handled gently and without scratching. Schmalz has developed a special cover made of special fabric for this purpose.

Schmalz will be presenting its VCBL-GL smooth table suction cups for clamping glass. They are used, for example, for edge processing of glass panes in the automotive industry. The suction cups work with a two-circuit vacuum system and two hose connections: One positions the suction cup on the machine table, the other fixes the workpiece on the block suction cup. The high lateral force absorption offers optimum holding forces for processing both dry and wet glass.

Small windows and glass panes can be transported by hand - technical aids are required for larger dimensions and heavier weights. Schmalz supplies a wide range of lifting devices for manual handling, including cranes. For example, a Vacumaster Window Comfort 500 with column-mounted slewing crane will be on display in Düsseldorf. The device is used, for example, for glazing windows or handling windows with several pane elements. The Jumboergo 110 tube lifter will also be in use at Glasstec. as
