The new Series 84N5 cam gripper extends Destaco's successful range of cost-effective and ultra-fast Series 84N grippers. The grippers are part of Destaco's Accelerate program, which offers productivity-enhancing solutions for press lines in automotive production.
The innovative feature of the 84N5 grippers is their combination of force, speed, durability and lightweight materials, which enables high-speed operation with less system wear thanks to lower moment forces. With an actuation speed of 78 ms, the 84N5 grippers are twice as fast as competitive products and ensure a gripping force of 1200N at 5 bar (72.5 psi).

The low-wear precision design ensures a longer service life with minimal maintenance requirements and at the same time enables higher production output (stamped parts per hour). "Uptime and faster throughput with less maintenance and lower operating costs are critical to our customers' competitiveness," said Gary Labadie, Global Product Director of Destaco's Gripper Division. "This new gripper excels in all of these key application criteria. The result is a highly configurable and infinitely adjustable universal gripper with a long service life that is easy to configure, reduces customer inventory requirements and is extremely cost-effective."

The 84N5 grippers are available with fixed 90-degree jaws that open on both sides. The jaws are interchangeable and can be adjusted in place in a maximum of 10 minutes using an Allen key. The jaws have an optical opening angle indicator and can be infinitely adjusted to an angle between 15 and 75 degrees. Color coding makes it easier to select the right pressure spindle for the respective sheet thickness. The jaws of the 84N5 grippers can be fitted with either single or double pressure spindles, which increases overall application flexibility.

The interrogation solutions include an in-jaw sensor system that detects whether a part is positioned between the jaws. The optional side sensor system with two sensors can be set by the user to the 'one sheet', 'double sheet', 'fully open' or 'fully closed' scanning mode. Thanks to its compact design, the 84N5 gripper can be easily integrated into any tool and assembly configuration in the press shop. The 84N5 gripper
has a fail-safe locking mechanism that prevents the part from falling in the event of a loss of compressed air. Because the part remains fixed in the gripper even in the event of an emergency shutdown, there is less waste.
