High-tech license plates in the desert state

The Roads & Transport Authority (RTA), Dubai's competent authority for vehicle registration, will in future rely on embossing robots from Tönnjes for embossing and issuing license plates.

A digitalized production management system with IDeRobot carrier robots and intelligent IDePress embossing presses will be used. With the help of specialists from Germany, a system will be installed in Dubai that simplifies the production of licence plates with different sizes and designs, manages machines and materials and digitizes order processing.

With a car population of around 1.8 million vehicles, many different license plate formats are used in Dubai. In some cases, very different license plate types are produced and distributed at more than 35 issuing offices. "The previous system was very susceptible to misprints. These are now a thing of the past," explains Mirjam Weber, Sales Manager at Tönnjes.

Each license plate now has a serial number, which will be used to document all processing steps in the life cycle of the license plate in future. The integration of a warehouse management module will also improve inventory planning. The IDeRobot carrier robots have a special role to play. They are able to produce license plates in two different sizes with eight designs in any order, i.e. adapted to actual demand.

So far, four IDePress and two IDeRobot system components for a central license plate factory have been delivered and integrated into the Secure Plate Management System (SPMS) developed in-house. The complete conversion of all issuing points will be carried out successively. as
