New electronics production in Detmold
Weidmüller expands headquarters
The electronics and connection technology company Weidmüller is expanding its headquarters in Detmold with a new production building. The new building in Ohmstraße will be used for the production of electronic components, among other things. The start of construction was marked in mid-August 2023 with the symbolic laying of the foundation stone.
Volker Bibelhausen, Chief Technology Officer and CEO of Weidmüller, is delighted with the start of the major project: "With the new electronics production facility in Detmold, we are strengthening Germany as a location and offering interesting jobs in East Westphalia-Lippe. The project is an important step towards further expanding our innovative strength and competitiveness in electronics."
Electronics production with solar energy
The new production building will house PCB assembly, assembly, plastics production and logistics processes. Weidmüller is investing a total of around 60 million euros in the project over a period of three years. The concept provides for modern equipment and a high degree of automation. The new building also offers a high level of energy efficiency. Reversible heat pumps are used to heat and cool the hall. Heat recovery from production waste heat is also guaranteed. Other heat requirements are covered by district heating. The entire roof area of the building will be equipped with a 600 kWp photovoltaic system so that the electronics production can be powered by solar energy.
Dr. Sebastian Durst, Chief Operations Officer at Weidmüller, emphasizes the holistic and sustainable concept of the project: "We attach great importance to sustainability and energy efficiency in all areas of our new production building. On the one hand, the building concept provides for the use of renewable energies. On the other hand, we produce in Detmold specifically for our European customers, thereby reducing transportation routes and ourCO2 footprint."
Two years construction time
The foundation stone ceremony for the new electronics production facility was held on site in Ohmstraße in Detmold. Among those present was Dr. Axel Lehmann, District Administrator of the district of Lippe. Construction is expected to take just under two years. Production in the new production building is scheduled to start at the beginning of 2025. The project is being implemented by the construction company Depenbrock from Stemwede.
