Prosthesis models
Stratasys launches "Unlimited Tomorrow" initiative
Together with Dassault Systèmes and Easton LaChappelle, Stratasys launches the"Unlimited Tomorrow" initiative. At Solidworks World 2018, it was announced that Stratasys will be the exclusive provider of 3D printing technology for the initiative and organization, ushering in a new era of customized, cost-effective and highly functional prosthetic arms for those who need them most. Unlimited Tomorrow will fully collaborate with Stratasys in the research, development and production of these prostheses. This will strengthen the company's current and planned investments in corporate social responsibility.
Conventional prosthesis models are often heavy, unwieldy and expensive - they cost the patient at least 20,000 up to 100,000 US dollars per prosthesis. The decision to spend these sums on a child's prosthesis is complicated by the fact that children grow out of many models very quickly and always need new ones. Unlimited Tomorrow aims to revolutionize the approach to making artificial prostheses by focusing on common pain points such as adaptability, weight and cost.
The company develops intuitive, scalable models to create customized prostheses from start to finish. Unlimited Tomorrow uses digital, scanning and 3D printing technologies to streamline development and reduce the number of fittings - minimizing the burden on each patient.
"Unlimited Tomorrow is driven by a desire to make the possible possible, utilizing unique thinking that leads to absolutely incredible ideas. Our guiding principle is 'user-first', meaning the technology serves the needs of patients from the start and everything is powered by the most advanced technology," said Easton LaChappelle, founder of Unlimited Tomorrow. "We are honored that Stratasys and Dassault Systèmes have joined our growing community of companies, further empowering us to change the paradigm for personalized, 3D-printed prosthetics and accelerate our time to market."
At the center of the announcement was the selection of Stratasys and Dassault Systèmes as the exclusive 3D printing and CAD/CAE providers. Stratasys' exclusive collaboration enables Unlimited Tomorrow to develop and produce prosthetics through its expert PolyJet and Stratasys Direct Manufacturing teams. Unlimited Tomorrow will benefit from Stratasys' 3D printing solutions for the healthcare industry, utilizing world-class 3D printing expertise and materials to develop robust, functional and aesthetically pleasing prosthetics. Equipped with a unique level of realism, Stratasys' solutions are perfect for customizing the prostheses to the patient for an optimal personal fit.
"We see 3D printing as a catalyst for innovation in healthcare to enable better patient care, streamline processes and improve learning. This is particularly evident in the area of prosthesis manufacturing. That's why a major component of our corporate social responsibility program focuses on the availability of prosthetics, enabling improvements, enhancing quality of life and boosting self-esteem for prosthetic users," said Arita Mattsoff, Vice President, Corporate Social Responsibility at Stratasys. "Unlimited Tomorrow is improving the lives of children around the world with practical and affordable custom-fit prosthetics. We are proud to work with our longtime partner Dassault Systèmes and Unlimited Tomorrow to provide the technology and expertise to make the best prosthetics."
With Dassault Systèmes' Solidworks applications, Unlimited Tomorrow utilizes the ultimate 3D design and engineering portfolio to enable an integrated design and development process and bring innovations to market faster. The software enables a high degree of collaboration and idea sharing for rapidly manufactured and more cost-effective prostheses for patients.
"In this highly competitive market, true industry leaders are driving efficiency and creativity in all aspects of their operations - especially in the areas of design, manufacturing and product development. Solidworks is consistently the right portfolio of applications that enables true innovation," said Suchit Jain, Vice President, Strategy and Business Development at Solidworks, Dassault Systèmes. "It is very rewarding to work with Stratasys to drive the Unlimited Tomorrow global initiative."
In line with Unlimited Tomorrow's promise to empower people, the company has chosen the Indiegogo platform for its latest fundraising efforts. Jonathan Cohen, Chief Enterprise Solutions Officer at Indiegogo, said: "We congratulate Unlimited Tomorrow on their determination to listen to the crowd in crowdfunding for their latest innovations.
