The Robotics Award 2025 was presented to the Canadian company Maple Advanced Robotics at the Hannover Messe press preview on February 19. The award-winning project MARI AARS is an AI-controlled robotics platform for fast and code-free programming.

International Federation of Robotics
Economies around the world are investing heavily in robotics to promote industrial innovation and social progress. The "World Robotics R&D Programs 2025" shows: Asia, Europe and America are pursuing different strategies.
Robotics and automation in Germany has lost competitiveness: For 2025, the industry is forecasting a total turnover of minus 9% to 13.8 billion euros. Last year, companies closed with a turnover of minus 6% at 15.2 billion euros.

From June 24 to 27, 2025, Automatica, the trade fair for intelligent automation and robotics, will bring industry and research together in six exhibition halls. Preparations are in full swing.

Interview with Jörg Rommelfanger
The annual IFR report shows that the number of industrial robots is steadily increasing worldwide. They have already played an important role in ABB's portfolio for decades. In an interview with INDUSTRIAL Production, Jörg Rommelfanger, Head of ABB's Robotics division in Germany, talks about how robotics in industry will develop technologically in the near and distant future.
Hardly any automation works without the perfect interplay of hardware and software. Tool manufacturer Paul Horn initially designed and planned its systems for manufacturing precision tools, including their gripping technology, on its own. To program the robots and the PLC in the overall concept, including commissioning, Horn then brought Kuka on board for application engineering.

China has overtaken Germany in the use of robots in industry: China has moved up to third place in the world rankings with a robot density of 470 units per 10,000 employees. These are the findings of the World Robotics 2024 annual report published by the International Federation of Robotics (IFR).

Following the successful market launch of Horst1500, the first industrial robot of the new generation of digital robots, fruitcore robotics presented Horst1000 G2 for the first time at Motek in Stuttgart.
IFR World Robotics Report 2024
Over four million robots are in use in factories worldwide, reports the IFR in the current "World Robotics Report 2024" - a record number. However, sales of industrial robots have fallen.
Decline in incoming orders from Germany
Growth dampener: The VDMA is forecasting an increase in turnover of 2% to EUR 16.5 billion for 2024. In December 2023, turnover was still expected to increase by 4% to EUR 16.8 billion. In the previous year, companies had achieved a record of 16.2 billion euros with an increase in turnover of 13%.
Retooling processes on robot systems are necessary in order to be able to react to changing workpiece and production variants. However, each of these set-up processes causes unproductive times, harbors the potential for errors and requires additional knowledge and training. Concepts for minimizing set-up times are therefore economically necessary in order to have as little impact on productivity as possible.
A 3D image processing solution with 2D cameras, AI and robotics optimizes the production landscape.

Interview with DRV board member Helmut Schmid
Helmut Schmid, Chairman of the German Robotics Association, talks to Annina Schopen about artificial intelligence in robotics, the impact on workforce training and trends and barriers to the introduction of robot technologies.
