Human-robot collaboration

Andrea Gillhuber,

More flexibility thanks to bionic robot arm

The workspaces of humans and robots are increasingly merging into a collaborative workspace. This calls for robots that can be adapted to different scenarios. Festo meets these requirements with the Bionic Soft Arm.

The Bionic Soft Arm is a further development of the Bionic Motion Robot. It owes its adaptability to its modular design: Up to seven pneumatic bellows segments and rotary drives can be combined. As a result, it is flexible in terms of reach and mobility, can also work in confined spaces around obstacles and is flexible enough to allow direct cooperation with humans. Human-robot collaboration is therefore just as possible as classic SCARA applications such as pick & place.
