ifm opens certified "Green Factory" in Sibiu, Romania

On an area of 13,000 square meters, the family-owned company, with main locations in Essen and Tettnang, will combine development, production and sales in the future.
After just over a year of construction, ifm has opened the "Green Factory" in Sibiu, Romania. The building has been certified with the gold medal of the German Sustainable Building Council (DGNB).

As a university city, Sibiu is one of the biggest drivers of innovation and technology in the region, and ifm is one of the most important employers in the area with over 650 employees. For the long-established company, this was the reason to expand the site with a new factory including headquarters for sales.

The special thing about it is that the factory is a "green factory", setting ecologically, economically and socio-culturally sustainable standards. An aspect that has always been important to ifm's management, as Martin Buck, CEO of the Group, and CFO Christoph von Rosenberg emphasize. "I am delighted that we are making an important contribution to sustainable production and securing jobs in the Sibiu region with this opening," said Buck at the inauguration.

Construction at record speed

ifm managed to complete the construction project in just 14 months. Work had only just begun on March 1, 2022. From now on, ifm will be manufacturing its products for the international market on an area of 13,000 square meters.

With the DGNB certification, ifm is sending a clear signal for sustainable business in the future. This is because several requirements have to be met for the award: In addition to economic and ecological sustainability, the initiative not only assesses the construction, but also the use of the building during operation. To ensure this, ifm uses photovoltaic modules to generate electricity in its Green Factory and heat pumps to cover heating requirements. The latest generation of materials and technologies were also used during construction to create a long-lasting factory.

The factory in Sibiu is a role model: ifm is striving to always implement DGNB certification for its buildings in future. "In Sibiu, we can rely on a strong network of partners and also have highly qualified employees," explained the management in Romania. In the spirit of "ifm - close to you", the site brings sales and production together.
