Advantageous in the long term
Robur is an industrial service provider that also offers maintenance services. Jan-Jörg Müller-Seiler, CEO and Managing Partner of Robur, explains in an interview what exactly the company's goal is and why professional, efficient maintenance is beneficial in the long term, even if it initially involves high investments in some cases.
Robur is a successful industrial service provider with a broad portfolio that also includes maintenance. What exactly do we mean by this?
Since its foundation, the Robur Industry Service Group has pursued the vision of driving digital transformation and ecological change in industry and supporting companies in their implementation. To this end, we can draw on a broad portfolio and offer our customers many solutions from a single source. On the one hand, maintenance means - as the word suggests - keeping plants, machines and entire production facilities running, i.e. ensuring that they function and cause as little or no downtime as possible. On the other hand, it is just as important to ensure that these are also renewed, modernized, digitalized and automated. Processes also need to be optimized again and again. Our partner companies offer all of this in a wide range of industries.
To what extent are aspects of Industry 4.0 and digitalization integrated into maintenance measures?
Our portfolio and the resulting expertise extend to process optimization in addition to the requirements of the "classic manufacturing industry", such as industrial assembly, pipeline construction, pump solutions and classic welding and repair work. These include intelligent sensors, cobots and robots, AI, automation, AGVs (automated guided vehicles) and modern enterprise asset management systems (EAM) in production facilities. This also includes connectivity such as 5G or WIFI6 networks. Software solutions that make it possible to transfer, process and analyze large volumes of data in real time. Keyword: predictive maintenance.
Why is maintenance so important and how is the topic prioritized in the industry in your experience?
Professional, efficient maintenance - including modernization through digitalization, automation, etc. - not only reduces production costs and times in the long term, but also prevents expensive production losses and downtime, as mentioned above. Outdated machines and systems that are not regularly maintained and modernized also have a high energy consumption, which is not only financially disadvantageous, but also has a high negative impact on the environment. In addition, competitiveness also preserves jobs and Germany as an industrial location. The topic is often neglected in industry, as it causes short-term costs and sometimes requires high investments. In the long term, however, it always brings benefits for companies. This is because the costs of a production shutdown are usually far higher than the necessary investments.
