CeiliX and Kassow Robots present omnidirectional ceiling cobot
Together with Kassow Robots, a subsidiary of Bosch Rexroth, the company CeiliX is presenting the prototype of the first mobile cobot that can move freely in all directions on the ceiling.
Thanks to the rail system on the hall ceiling, the Cobot is able to reach different work areas in the company. Instead of being used at a fixed location and on a predefined route as before, it now moves freely around the room - but from above. This creates crucial free space on the shop floor: companies can use up to 50 percent more space for other processes.
The ceiling as a new level
"Until now, cobots were generally limited to permanently installed stations, linear rail axes or even ground vehicles. With our approach, we are opening up completely new possibilities for transportation, assembly and handling processes," explains Mathias Entenmann, CEO and co-founder of CeiliX. "Thanks to our technology, the ceiling becomes the new level for efficient, flexible and space-saving robotics. We are freeing automation from previous spatial limitations."
Simplification of the internal process
In addition to saving space, the mobile ceiling cobot ensures increased safety. As it operates on the ceiling, collisions with forklift trucks, autonomous mobile cobots or employees are avoided. Traffic routes and escape areas also remain clear, which significantly simplifies the coordination of internal processes.
The next opportunity to experience the ceiling cobot live will be at Automate 2025 in Detroit in May, where it will be presented to an international trade audience for the first time.
