OLEDWorks and BASF

Efficient and flexible OLED lighting technology

OLEDWorks, a leading manufacturer of OLED panels, and BASF's Coatings division, a specialist in high-quality coating solutions, have joined forces to develop the world's brightest flexible OLED panels.

The new product range called "Brite 3" has a higher luminous efficacy and still has excellent color rendering and a high light output. The new flexible version opens up completely new areas of application for lighting manufacturers and lighting designers. The Brite 3 portfolio includes a new round shape and the flexible version.

OLED lighting as a design element

OLED lighting technology is very thin and lightweight and offers the best natural light quality for illuminating commercial and residential spaces as well as unique design options for vehicle lighting. Its use as a design element requires flexible panels in order to produce luminaires in special or curved shapes.

OLEDWorks relies on BASF's flexible barrier solutions for its newly launched range of flexible panels with high light output. The highly effective encapsulation protects the panels from the harmful effects of water or oxygen from the air and has an excellent optical transparency of more than 90%.

In close cooperation with OLEDWorks, BASF has developed barrier materials that are crucial for the realization of flexible thin-film encapsulation for OLED lights and displays. In the Brite-3 panels, OLEDWorks uses the materials as a planar layer, enabling highly reliable thin-film encapsulation. am
