60 years of Leuze
Birthday and record growth
1963 marked the birth of the Leuze Group's Electronics division. In 2023, the international sensor expert celebrates its 60th anniversary. Today, more than 1,600 Sensor People worldwide are creating the innovations of tomorrow: sensor and safety solutions in automation technology.
Who would have thought in 1963 that the tender seedling of "electronics" as a new division of the Leuze Group would become a technology leader and world market leader in the field of optical sensors? In 2023, Leuze not only celebrates record growth, but also its 60th birthday.
A family business with a history
The history of the Leuze company does not begin with the birth of its electronics division in 1963, but as early as the 17th century in Eningen/Achalm near Reutlingen in southern Germany. Years later, when mechanical looms were replacing hand weaving and cotton was increasingly replacing domestic linen, the Leuze family took textile production into their own hands. "In 1861, our ancestors found exactly the conditions they needed to set up a mechanical cotton weaving and spinning mill in the Lenningen valley," explains Helmut Leuze, shareholder of the Leuze Group. From these origins, a recognized textile company emerged, which was successfully steered through all the perils of time and further developed over generations.
1963 marks the birth of Leuze electronic
In anticipation of fundamental changes, activities were also launched in other areas at an early stage. This led to the launch of Leuze electronic in 1963. Today, Leuze is an international sensor expert and one of the innovation leaders in industrial automation. With entrepreneurial courage and passion, the fifth generation is now driving the further development of the family company - together with over 1,600 employees worldwide, the Sensor People. With curiosity and determination, knowledge and openness towards new technologies, they are working on the innovations of tomorrow. "Success is always a joint effort. This understanding of values is the basis and obligation for us to continuously develop our family business. Thanks to the energetic commitment of our employees and an often long-standing relationship with our company, we have been able to lead our company to its current significance." With these words, Christof Leuze, shareholder and former Managing Director of Leuze electronic, thanks the entire Leuze workforce.
Continued ambitious growth targets
In 2022, Leuze achieved sales of 322 million euros (2021: 258 million euros). This corresponds to an increase in turnover of around 25 percent. The family-owned company also has ambitious growth targets for the future. The high-tech company continues to invest in decentralized structures, its Sensor People and new talent.
