New lubricants for sheet metal forming
This year, Euroblech, the international technology trade fair for sheet metal working, is celebrating its 25th anniversary. Reason enough for the lubricant specialist Zeller + Gmelin to present its comprehensive range of lubricants for sheet metal forming at the joint stand of the European Research Association for Sheet Metal Working (EFB) in Hall 11, Stand B08.
The experts from Zeller + Gmelin have three new forming lubricants in their luggage: Multidraw PL 61 SE especially for hot-dip galvanized surfaces, Multidraw KTL N 20 as a spot lubricant for demanding forming processes and Multidraw Drylube E1 as a hot melt for all materials.
"Euroblech 2018 will focus on our 2nd generation prelubes for 'frictionless' sheet metal forming," emphasizes Zeller+Gmelin Product Manager Katrin Hommel. The manufacturer has a solution in its product portfolio for every process step in sheet metal forming, especially in the field of low-lubricant sheet metal forming for the automotive industry.
2nd generation Prelube
One example is the new Multidraw PL 61 SE. As a prelube for effective rolling mill lubrication, it is suitable for the basic lubrication of all steel surfaces from the rolling mill. It was developed to meet the increased demands on the press shop. Due to the enormous potential for lightweight construction in the automotive industry and the general aim of saving material, higher-strength and ultra-high-strength steel grades are increasingly being used for forming.
"Our latest Prelube offers top performance on hot-dip galvanized surfaces and ensures an optimal process flow with reduced zinc abrasion," reports the product manager. The new Prelubricant offers optimum flow inhibition, especially for hot-dip galvanized surfaces. Joint tests with the Institute for Production Technology and Forming Machines (PTU) in Darmstadt have shown that there is a direct correlation between the load on a press tool, its wear and its service life. According to the company, tests have shown a doubling of tool life. An additional benefit is the reduction in wear on the forming tools, whose service life is also significantly increased with the new lubricant.
The lubricant experts also have a new spot lubricant in their range for demanding forming processes: Multidraw KTL N 20. The new spot lubricant was developed for use with high-strength materials in the automotive industry, especially for chipless forming of aluminium, steel, galvanized sheet metal and high-strength steels at medium to heavy forming degrees. The advantage for users is that they do not have to replace their application equipment, as the spot lubricant can be used with all manual and automatic rolling and spraying equipment.
Another highlight is a hotmelt with VDA approval. Multidraw Drylube E1 is a water-free coil coating agent that is suitable for all materials, including steel, galvanized steel, pre-phosphated steel, aluminium and stainless steel. According to the manufacturer, it has excellent anti-corrosion properties and leaves a non-slip layer on the metal surface after application. This "semi-dry" film enables high degrees of forming thanks to its good flexibility and sliding properties.
