car2go increases customer numbers by 30 percent
car2go grew dynamically in the 2017 financial year. With 2.97 million customers, the car sharing pioneer was able to further expand its global market leadership in flexible car sharing. Compared to the previous year, the number of customers increased by 30 percent. Chongqing in China (234,000 customers), Berlin (219,000 customers) and Madrid (190,000 customers) remain the cities with the highest number of customers. In North America, car2go passed an important milestone at the end of 2017: over one million customers now use the flexible car sharing service in the United States and Canada.
"2017 was an absolutely successful year for car2go," says CEO Olivier Reppert. "We grew in all areas - number of customers, rental duration and vehicle utilization - and in all regions in which we are active. The signs are also pointing to growth in 2018."
In the 2017 financial year alone, customers rented a car from the company more than 24 million times. The biggest growth in rentals was in the cities of Milan (plus 678,000 rentals), Berlin (plus 622,000 rentals) and Hamburg (plus 454,000 rentals). The introduction of the "car2go packages", which have made longer rentals even more attractive for customers since September, also increased the average rental duration by 30 percent.
A car2go car is rented somewhere in the world almost every second. Use of the total of around 14,000 vehicles increased by around 38 percent over the course of the 2017 financial year. The company continued to expand its fleet with new smart and Mercedes-Benz models in 2017 in order to meet customer demand. kp
