Micro water jet cutting

Andreas Mühlbauer,

Closing the gap between electrical discharge machining and microlasers

The fine abrasive waterjet process (FAWJ) is suitable for cutting precise cuts in hard materials with high precision.

The FAWJ cutting process bridges the gap between microlaser and EDM cutting and enables waterjet cutting in the field of micro-component processing. The NCM 10 Micro from Water Jet Sweden meets the high accuracy specifications for this cutting process. The micro waterjet cutting head enables an abrasive waterjet diameter of only 0.2 mm.

In order to achieve the required precision for micro-component production, the NCM 10 has a cutting table frame made of mineral cast bearlite, which is insensitive to vibrations and thermal influences. The frame is integrated as a complete unit into the machine construction and the movement system. The maximum table size is 1x1 m.
