Power contactor
Applications in the field of renewable energies
With the expansion of the DILH power contactor series, Eaton has added two devices for special applications to its portfolio, which are specially designed for switching resistive or weakly inductive loads.
The application-optimized DILH600 and DILH800 contactors offer an efficient solution for use in the renewable energy or data center segments for uninterruptible power supplies.
They also enable the galvanic isolation of inverter-operated system components and motors. The new DILH contactors cover a current range of up to 850 A (DILH 600) or 1,050 A (DILH 800) and can be used for a rated voltage of up to 1,000 V. The contactors are designed for an ambient temperature of -40 to 70 °C during operation.
The renewable energy industry requires robust and reliable switching devices that meet the demands of a highly competitive and price-sensitive market. This is at odds with motor contactors, whose technical performance clearly exceeds the technical requirements of inverter-operated systems. A major advantage of the new DILH contactors is their approval in accordance with the new UL regulations for a rated voltage range of up to 1,000 V in accordance with the current UL Directive 60947-4-1.
The DILH series was developed precisely for such applications as a cost-efficient alternative. The contactors comply with utilization category AC-1 in accordance with IEC 60947-4-1 and can also be used in category AC-2 applications. Typical applications are, for example, the disconnection of consumer networks, use with inverter-controlled drives and the control of inductive loads that are not switched on or off.
Eaton covers a current range from 650 to 3,185 A with its DILH contactors, consisting of three sizes divided into seven contactors. The lower current range of 337 A to 800 A is still covered by the long-life motor contactors made from a combination of AC-3 and AC-1 currents.
Thanks to their microprocessor-controlled power drive, the contactors in the DILH series only have a low pick-up and holding power. This lowers the cooling requirement in the control cabinet and reduces energy consumption. The DILH contactors offer different types of control. While the S version (S-Type) is limited to the classic type of control, three types of control are available with the comfort version: directly from the PLC, via low-power command devices and via classic control.
All DILH power contactors with a wide-range coil can be controlled with both AC and DC. This reduces the variety of types and simplifies project planning.
