Connector system from Conec

Fast communication in a small space

Conec has introduced its M8x1 P-coded product series - the combination of super-fast Ethercat communication with a 24-volt power supply.

The previously known Ethercat communication, based on Ethernet transmission technology, is characterized in particular by its fast transmission speed (real-time Ethernet). This is required for many applications such as synchronization in the field of automation technology. The wiring technology here is implemented with a four-pole shielded M8x1 plug connector and a standard Ethernet cable; the power is supplied via a separate cable.

A further development of the globally established and standardized Ethercat technology has been implemented with Ethercat-P from Beckhoff and the associated ETG (Ethercat Technology Group). The special feature of Ethercat-P is the combination of super-fast Ethercat communication with the 24-volt power supply. Data and power (Us) are provided on a two-wire data pair for system and sensor supply with 24 volts and three amps.

Data and the peripheral voltage (Up) for supplying the actuators are provided on the second data pair. This direct coupling of the supply voltage to the 100 MBit cable with Ethercat-P enables a compact and cost-effective device connection. As there are no supply lines, this is referred to as a "one cable solution".

New coding

A new coding has been developed for this application and standardized in IEC 60176-2-114 under the term "P-coding" to make it impossible to hide with other standardized M8x1 connector systems. Special features of this coding are the red coloring of the contact carriers and the leading T-contour on the end face of the coupling contact carrier, which prevents concealment with other codings.

At present, shielded axially overmoulded designs with cable quality G6, TPU 4xAWG22, are available in standard lengths. Connector-plug connection cables are used almost exclusively for the 100 MBit device connection.

Axial coupling and plug variants are available for the field attachable connectors, optionally with screw connection (coupling) or crimp connection (coupling, plug).

The flange for direct PCB mounting is available in a comprehensive product range for the device connection, so that the user has many variable installation options. The continuous shielding from the flange housing to the PCB is realized with a punched sheet metal. Molded contact tabs provide the radial connection to the flange housing, while the connection to the PCB is made via latching elements with subsequent soldering. The materials used are suitable for wave soldering. A special flange design is the version with molded cable and an additional connector on side B, preferably P-coded. This is ideal for wiring through a wall, for example in a switch cabinet. as
