Uwe Ziehl died at the age of 79
Uwe Ziehl died on June 6, 2026 at the age of 79. As an entrepreneur and Chairman of the Supervisory Board, he had a lasting impact on the strategic development of Ziehl-Abegg.
In Uwe Ziehl, the Ziehl-Abegg family business has lost an entrepreneur who played a key role in its development over the decades. The long-standing Chairman of the Supervisory Board and grandson of company founder Emil Ziehl died on June 6, 2026 at the age of 79. This was announced by the owner family, the Supervisory Board, the Management Board and the company's employees.
Anyone looking at the history of Ziehl-Abegg over the past decades can hardly fail to mention Uwe Ziehl. As an engineer, he founded ZIEHL industrie-elektronik GmbH in Schwäbisch Hall back in 1967. At the same time, he drove the development of Ziehl-Abegg, which grew from a regionally rooted company into a globally active technology group for fans, electric motors and control technology.
The consolidation of the family shares in a joint holding company was of particular importance for the future of the company. Ziehl thus created the conditions for Ziehl-Abegg to exist as an independent family business and at the same time to invest extensively in research, development and production.
Uwe Ziehl headed the Supervisory Board between 2005 and 2020. During this time, he supported the strategic direction of the company with technical expertise and a long-term perspective. Innovation, quality and solidarity with the employees were the central guidelines of his actions.
Ziehl also had a lasting impact on the industrial structure of the company. For many years, he focused on expanding vertical integration and technological expertise. This included starting in-house production of plastic components in the Hohenlohe industrial park. Together with the company's own aluminum casting facility in Schöntal-Bieringen, a production structure was created that is still considered a particular strength of the company today.
Joachim Ley, CEO of Ziehl-Abegg, paid tribute to the deceased as a formative entrepreneurial personality: "Uwe Ziehl played a decisive role in shaping the development of Ziehl-Abegg. He shaped Ziehl-Abegg for decades with clear decisions and technical consistency. Our sympathy goes out to his family."
Uwe Ziehl was born in Füssen in 1947 and grew up in Künzelsau. There, he developed a close connection to the family business at an early age and remained associated with it for the rest of his life. The Hohenlohe region remained far more than just a company location for him; it was the center of his life.
Ziehl prepared the transition to the next generation at an early stage. He handed over the management of the company to his children in 2021. Dennis Ziehl has been Chairman of the Supervisory Board since January of the same year.
Uwe Ziehl is survived by his wife and two children. The family asked that their privacy be respected during this time.
