Working life 4.0

Sustainable corporate culture

Employees today have different priorities than previous generations before them. Buzzwords such as agility, dynamism, self-realization and work-life balance are much more relevant than they used to be. This was the incentive for SPI GmbH from Ahrensburg to take part in the "Future-proof corporate culture" audit, which the IT systems consultant has now completed: "We wanted a jointly defined corporate culture in which employees experience a fair balance of interests and have a say in determining the necessary freedom and structures for creative work," say Managing Directors Jeanette Rouvel and Dirk Vollmer, describing the joint objective.

The management of SPI GmbH Jeanette Rouvel and Dirk Vollmer. "We consider the audit by the New Quality of Work Initiative to be a great benefit for all of us."

As part of the audit, colleagues were first made aware of the issues and then the topics to be addressed were defined. "Many participants saw this challenge as an opportunity to sharpen their ideas and look for a positive outcome for everyone. Our aim was to develop an atmosphere of cooperation in which everyone could work together to define how we want to and will work at SPI as independently as possible," says Rouvel. The survey identified 11 key areas. Teams were formed around these topics, which developed and implemented measures independently using different approaches. For example, the groups dealt with topics such as modernizing the working environment, implementing home office workplaces, improving the flow of information, further training and modernizing the recruitment process. Fields of action that will continue to have an impact on the company: "As these are dynamic processes, these topics and the successes achieved so far will continue to evolve," says Vollmer.

SPI has thus taken a decisive step forward towards a new "corporate culture of active co-determination". The management also sees the award it has now received as a great success: "The audit by the New Quality of Work Initiative has shown us where we want to change and has made important issues tangible. We already have a jointly defined basis for a successful, sustainable team. Some of those involved have perhaps learned for the first time what it means to think entrepreneurially and take responsibility beyond their own area of work. We see this as a great benefit for all of us."
