Fraunhofer honors Igus energy management
For energy management in clean production facilities, the Igus e-skin supplies systems with data, media and energy without generating airborne particles above the narrow limit standards through friction and contaminating the room. The corrugated hose for cleanroom applications was awarded 2nd prize in the Fraunhofer Cleanliness Technology Prize.
The manufacture of microchips, flat screens, implants, active pharmaceutical ingredients or micro and nanoproducts would be unthinkable without a clean, pure or ultra-pure production environment. This is because any contamination has a direct detrimental effect on the product and process and is expensive for the manufacturer. Igus has therefore developed a new type of corrugated tube for the cleanroom in the field of energy supply: the e-skin. It has been awarded the Fraunhofer Tested Device seal of approval for ISO Class 1 and has now been awarded 2nd prize in the Fraunhofer Cleanliness Technology Award "Clean! 2018". This award recognizes outstanding ideas in cleanliness technology that are new and increase the efficiency of production processes.
Closed design and abrasion resistance for clean production
The e-skin is made of tribologically optimized, abrasion-resistant plastic. The separable upper and lower shells can be easily joined together using a zipper process to form a completely closed pipe with high dust and water tightness. This guarantees cleanroom suitability as well as fast filling and maintenance of the pipes. The easy-to-install e-skin is also very lightweight, suitable for small installation spaces - for example in pick-and-place applications - and can be used unsupported for short distances thanks to the rigidity of the material, the ribbed contour and a defined direction of movement. am
