Functional safety in the drive
Modular systems offer a simple and cost-effective way of putting together drive systems that are individually optimized for the respective application - and can also be adapted and modified as required. Linmot's complete package now also includes functional safety integrated into the drives.
The balance between a shortage of skilled workers, increasing production requirements, safety specifications and the need for sustainable processes represents an enormous challenge for many machine manufacturers. To meet these complex requirements, Linmot offers an innovative and easily configurable modular system for highly dynamic handling and assembly systems with integrated functional safety.
The flexible modular system enables users to combine Linmot's space-optimized linear motors, modules and guides into proven Cartesian structures such as semi-gantry, gantry or other multi-axis systems. This allows industry-specific, even very complex requirements to be implemented quickly and precisely, while at the same time ensuring high dynamics. Despite the integration of several carriages and Z-axes, Linmot systems remain extremely space-saving, have low interference contours and are easy to maintain and expand. Due to their motion structure, Linmot linear motors, modules and guides are not only more energy and cost efficient compared to other kinematics, but also more flexible in the design of the workspace and offer precise and repeatable motion control in addition to high speed. This makes them suitable for applications that require exact movements and repeated positioning, such as highly dynamic sorting, pick-and-place and assembly applications, as well as closing, screwing and handling processes.
Solutions for specific requirements
The comprehensive product range of the Linmot modular system covers almost all customer and industry-specific requirements. For force-controlled or clean room applications, for example, the ISO-4-certified linear modules of the DM01 series are available. Longer strokes and the integration of up to four carriages are possible with the linear modules from the FM01 and EM01 series. These modules safely absorb external forces, torsional and bending moments and can be combined into semi-gantry, gantry or other multi-axis systems and put into operation immediately without additional adapters or specially developed components. Linmot components also meet the highest requirements as a Z-axis: Especially for vertical applications, the slim DM03 linear module offers a large stroke range with integrated load compensation. This module can also be equipped with a high-resolution position sensor in the module or a force sensor at the front. For highly dynamic rotary movements, the Linmot portfolio includes dynamic linear rotary motors with integrated force and torque sensors, air feed-through and stainless steel front. The PR01 and PR02 series and their special versions can be used for a wide range of applications and use sensors to provide detailed information such as vertical position, press force, impact force, closing angle and torque. To meet special requirements in the food and pharmaceutical industries, Linmot also offers a product line made of stainless steel 1.4404, whose hygienic design impresses with high chemical resistance and protection class IP69. These solutions are specially optimized for cleaning processes such as CIP (Clean-in-Place) and SIP (Sterilize-in-Place) and are suitable for use in demanding production environments (protection class IP69).
Drives and actuators integrated with functional safety
With the introduction of a comprehensive complete package, Linmot now offers an innovative solution: Functional Safety is integrated directly into the motor and drive without having to change the proven design. This allows both new and existing machine concepts to benefit from the advantages of integrated safety technology. A key advantage is that the entire safety monitoring is integrated into the 2S Servo Drive, meaning that no additional hardware is required. In addition to Safe Stop (STO) and Safe Shutdown (SS1), Linmot drives also offer advanced safety functions such as Safe Stop 2 (SS2), Safe Operation Stop (SOS), Safe Limited Speed (SLS) and Safe Brake Control (SBC/SBT). The safe brake control (SBC) has also been extended to include a brake test (SBT), which enables the braking effect to be checked cyclically.
The new Linmot 2S Servo Drives communicate with the higher-level controller via various safety bus systems as required: users can use Profisafe via Profinet and Profidrive or transfer protocols via EtherCAT (FSoE), Ethernet/IP, Powerlink and Sercos. Alternatively, the safety functions can also be activated via the integrated digital inputs.
