ContiTech invests in Hungary
ContiTech is further expanding its commitment in Hungary. Over the past one and a half years, the industrial supplier, which belongs to the German technology company Continental, has invested around 20 million euros in the Nyíregyháza site alone. A second mixing line for rubber and a production facility for hoses used in automotive heating and cooling applications were built. A new plant for the production of air spring bellows (calender) is almost complete. In addition, a warehouse for rubber compounds has been built and a logistics center for air springs and hose lines is under construction. The new facilities were officially put into operation in the presence of Hungary's Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Economic Affairs Magvar Levente, the Deputy Mayor of Nyíregyháza Jászai Menyhért and ContiTech representatives from Germany.
"The Hungarian government has supported the investment with over 6 million euros," says László Jókay, Managing Director at the Nyíregyháza site. "This has already created more than 200 additional jobs. We now have a total of around 500 employees in Nyíregyháza. Five years ago, there were 220, and I expect another 250 to 300 jobs to be created in the next two to three years once all the new facilities have reached full capacity." In total, the company employs around 5,000 people at its three sites in Hungary. And investments were not only made in Nyíregyháza, but also at the other Hungarian sites.
The new logistics center for rubber compounds, from which the other Hungarian sites are also supplied, started operations in December last year. The new mixing line, which was built to meet the constantly increasing demand, is currently in test operation. Hose production has already started and capacity is to be doubled this year. The joint 4,500 square meter warehouse for hoses and air bellows is also due to be completed by the spring. kp
