StarterSET compact and digital twin
Realize compact machines quickly
By simulating and testing applications before they are physically implemented, errors can be detected at an early stage. The packaging machine that SEW-Eurodrive is presenting at Automatica also underwent virtual commissioning using a digital twin.
Using the example of this compact horizontal flow-wrapping machine, the Bruchsal-based specialist for drive and automation technology shows how machines can be started, stopped, tested and optimized in a virtual environment - from the adjustment of cycle rates and conveyor belt lengths to the optimization of machine performance. This not only reduces the effort involved in the development phase, but also significantly shortens the time to market.
Digital twin
What was previously only possible during the actual commissioning of a machine can now be realized digitally in advance or parallel to implementation thanks to the "digital twin as an automation service". SEW-Eurodrive offers a digital solution that allows customers to virtually simulate and test machines and applications. This opens up completely new possibilities for machine operators, programmers, designers and end users. This enables them to perfect their projects more efficiently, faster and with fewer resources.
Using the example of an HFFS machine, the internationally active family business will show visitors to the trade fair the comprehensive support it provided throughout the entire development process, from design and programming through to commissioning. A team of experts accompanied the project from the initial simulation to the final implementation. Based on the data provided by the on-site machine simulations, a smooth transition to operation was ensured.
Realize flexible and compact machines with the StarterSET compact
The StarterSET compact focuses on cost-effectiveness. This basic package therefore includes the compact Movitrac advanced inverter with Movilink DDI digital motor interface and single-cable technology. In addition to the coordinated hardware components, a comprehensive software package (Movikit Bundle) is also available, which includes all the functions required for the respective applications at a reduced cost. With this license model, the user can decide freely and flexibly whether he wants to implement his functions drive-related or as a central motion controller. Extensive and versatile PackML-compliant programming templates with front-end content are available for this purpose. The solution package is rounded off with standardized communication interfaces such as OPC-UA, Profinet, EtherNET/IP and web visualization.
Sustainable and economical
"The compact horizontal flow-wrapping machine, or HFFS for short, exhibited by SEW-Eurodrive at Automatica is 100 percent compressed air-free and exclusively driven by highly efficient electric motors," explains Alexander Hack, Project Manager and Group Manager Machine Solutions. As a result, energy consumption can be sustainably reduced and productivity increased at the same time. The machine works with AC 230 V and does not require any power connections, which makes installation easier. The Movilink DDI digital motor interface with robust single-cable technology transmits power, brake and diagnostic data over a distance of up to 200 meters. The StarterSET compact from a single source was used here quickly, individually and flexibly.
This means that the StarterSET compact can be extensively adapted and customized with all its advantages as a package for small and compact machines with up to six axes thanks to SEW- Eurodrive's broad product portfolio. Areas of application include case erectors, case packers, gantry and portal systems, as well as cutting machines and filling machines.
