Refrigerated goods saved: Emergency generator bridges power failure
A power failure in the cold store is a nightmare for refrigerated logistics companies that have to guarantee the freshness of many customers' goods. This happened to a frozen food specialist in NRW. Suddenly the power went out, but the logistics specialist acted immediately and called Bredenoord for help.
Minus 18 degrees - that is the target temperature in the cold store. Frozen food worth several million euros is stored there and is delivered to bulk consumers using complex logistics from the warehouse in North Rhine-Westphalia and two other locations throughout Germany. The sophisticated logistics concept enables punctual deliveries to various customers such as canteens, schools, care facilities and public authorities.
Sudden power failure of uncertain duration
It happened on a mild summer evening at 6 p.m.: a sudden power failure on the entire company premises and in the surrounding area. A call to the network operator was unsuccessful. The cause had not yet been discovered, so it was not possible to make any concrete statement about the duration of the power failure. Although the cold store is relatively new and very well insulated, Managing Director Stefan did not want to take any risks in the interests of his customers: "Our goods remain sufficiently cooled for a few hours or days. Without any certainty about the duration of the power cut, I couldn't risk the goods spoiling, so I contacted Bredenoord that very evening. The next morning at 7 a.m. the unit was ready - impressive!"
The solution: Power generator supplied at short notice, including accessories, with flexible rental period
The managing director reached the Bredenoord hotline, which is available 24/7, at 6 p.m. in the evening. They were quickly able to jointly define the power required for the cooling system and decided on an 800 kVA unit with a 5,500 liter fuel tank. Thanks to the large rental fleet of 2,700 units, Bredenoord was able to guarantee a unit for the next morning. At 7 a.m. the following day, the unit was delivered with tank, cables and distribution box. The managing director was particularly impressed by the Bredenoord driver and the company's own trucks. The unloading took place autonomously, without any other aids such as forklift trucks. Furthermore, the driver knew the equipment so well that an initial malfunction could be rectified together. The managing director sums up:
"Bredenoord is sitting on a goldmine of knowledge. My problem was identified, a solution found and delivered in no time at all - a straightforward, fast process with a very good flow of information. The flexible arrangement of the rental period was also an advantage for us. I only ended the rental when the electricity was safely back on. I would do it again and again. At worst, I have the costs of arrival and departure with 0 operating hours - anything better than a breakdown of our refrigeration system and the spoiling of the goods."
