Sustainable packaging solution made from Silphie fibers

The concept involves the extraction and processing of fibers for paper production from renewable, regionally grown raw materials as an alternative to conventional fresh tree wood fibers. This reduces dependence on highly volatile global pulp markets, the deforestation of rainforests, transportation routes and the associated CO2 emissions. The marketable fibers and papers based on the Silphie plant are further processed together with packaging manufacturers into individual solutions for various areas of application, particularly in direct contact with food. Example products include fruit and vegetable trays, folding boxes, labels, banderoles and bags.

Due to the different utilization concepts of the individual Silphie plant components, innovative bioeconomic solutions for residues or fermentation products from biogas plants are created for farmers, thus enabling multiple material use.
