Polyetherketones
High-performance plastics for extreme conditions
Polyetherketones are modern high-performance plastics that are particularly resilient and temperature-resistant. They are used, for example, as a material for dental implants and artificial hip joints.
The plastic can also be found in vehicle gearboxes and aircraft heat shields. Polyetherketones, PEK for short, are extremely temperature and chemical resistant. Their mechanical properties, strength, rigidity and stability, are also outstanding. They are also radiation-resistant and biocompatible, making them suitable for use in medical technology. In contrast to mass-produced plastics such as polyethylene (PE) or polypropylene (PP), however, PEK is very expensive to produce and is therefore only produced for special applications. Reichelt Chemietechnik uses the material in some capillary hoses, for example.
