Axial fan

Andreas Mühlbauer,

Improve the efficiency of the overall system

Ebm-papst has developed the AxiEco Protect axial fan for use in evaporators, heat pumps and other ventilation and air conditioning equipment.

Fans in evaporators have to overcome a high back pressure, as ice often forms on the heat exchanger, which narrows the air passages. At the latest when the next stage of the ErP Directive comes into force, the still widely used AC axial fans in particular will reach their limits.

The AxiEco Protect from the new ebm-papst series in EC and AC technology is suitable for this purpose. This also offers high pressure stability with high efficiency. The air performance curve is steeper than that of comparable axial fans.

Slingshot ring makes head gap superfluous

The impeller, centrifugal ring and hub of the fans form a compact unit. The blade tips merge directly into the centrifugal ring, which means there is no head gap between the nozzle and impeller. This prevents overflow of the blade tips as with conventional axial fans, which increases efficiency and reduces noise.

In addition, the centrifugal ring takes on the function of a diffuser, which is thus integrated directly into the impeller. Its pressure-increasing effect reduces outlet losses and also contributes to noise reduction. In addition, the service life of evaporators, i.e. the intervals between defrosting cycles, is extended. This also saves energy and increases the overall efficiency of the appliance.

Fans comply with the ErP Directive

The AxiEco-Protect fans are available in sizes 300, 350, 400, 450 and 500 in both EC and AC versions. As they operate with high efficiency even with increasing back pressure, the AC versions also meet the requirements of the future ErP directive. With volume flows of up to 12,000 m³/h and pressures of up to 450 Pa, they are suitable for a wide range of typical applications in refrigeration, air conditioning and ventilation technology. As a compact plug & play solution, they can be easily integrated into the application.
