The conveyor technology specialist recently developed a prototype with ball transfer units for a customer in the furniture industry. Versatile in use, the further development of the classic version of the corner transfer unit transports even the heaviest goods with a load capacity of up to 2,500 kg. In addition, the intralogistics solution from the Bielefeld-based company is particularly reliable, insensitive to impacts and significantly cheaper than the automated version. On request, Torwegge also offers the device for use in other sectors, taking individual specifications into account.

"Above a certain weight, it is neither sensible nor reasonable to move goods manually. This is when material flow solutions are needed to relieve the strain. With this in mind, we have been manufacturing individual conveyor technology components for over 60 years, such as the ball transfer unit, which can be combined to create customized systems," says Tim Hallau, Product Manager at Torwegge. The new solution is used whenever load carriers need to be guided around a corner due to their layout or external conditions. The integration of pallet roller rails and ball transfer units also makes it possible to switch from transverse to longitudinal transport.

Torwegge works closely with its customers during development. "In order to meet individual requirements, we look very closely at the purposes for which the solution is needed,"
says Hallau. This was also the case when developing the prototype of a corner transfer unit with ball transfer units for a customer in the furniture industry. Due to the feet of the pallet cages in which the goods are transported, all-way rollers (AWR) were unsuitable. Torwegge then designed a solution with a ball caster holder in which 15 ball casters are accommodated.

In this way, the feet of a pallet cage are supported in motion by six alternating ball transfer units per foot, achieving a maximum load capacity of 2,500 kg.
"Our solution enables reliable and robust transportation and also ensures a smooth material flow," says Hallau. The components used are all from the Torwegge range. The conveyor technology specialist manufactured the stop plate and the ball transfer unit frames individually according to the area of application. Depending on the application, ball transfer units can also be installed in different sizes. Customers from other industries can also benefit from the company's proven consulting expertise. Torwegge produces customized solutions on request and adapts them to the respective load carriers.
