Overhead conveyor system

Annina Schopen,

Material supply by gravity

Cost-effective, flexible, space-saving: these are the features that characterize the new overhead conveyor system from Item. It is used for the efficient provision of materials and is an alternative to small load carriers.

The overhead conveyor system is ideal for transporting goods that take up too much space in conventional small load carriers (SLCs) or get caught up easily. This makes the provision of material with an individual weight of up to 5 kg extremely easy. The system is suitable for manual or semi-automated transportation of a wide range of components and parts. Its design is simple and flexible: ESD-safe trolleys are hooked into the manufacturer's rail profiles for commissioning. The individual profiles are up to 6 m long and can be combined with each other as required. They are connected to a frame made from the D30 profile tube system at an angle of 3°. This creates transport trolleys or racks with an integrated overhead conveyor system.

Gravity alone moves the trolleys empty or with the conveyed goods on the low-friction track profile to the removal point. There, the end stop enables simple and ergonomic removal. The stop at the removal point stops the trolleys and provides additional protection, for example when transporting with automated guided vehicles. Despite movement and cornering, the transported goods remain securely in place. In addition, materials can also be transported over longer distances in a space-saving manner, as a lower inclination of just 3° is sufficient here, in contrast to other systems with an inclination of significantly more than 5°. The overhead conveyor system now presented is recommended for transporting cables, cockpit panels, floor mats, measuring instruments or other components in the automotive industry, but is also suitable for transporting products and components from other sectors.

Transport goods can be conveyed on a straight route. Future plans include transportation over curves, which means that the area of application can be extended even further. The system can also be used for mechanical partial automation in Karakuri applications or for shooters. This allows users to transfer goods to staging racks without manual handling of transport vehicles. The connection to an overhead conveyor system opens up a wide range of possibilities for efficient, semi-automated transport in intralogistics.
