Corrugated cardboard instead of polystyrene

Corrugated cardboard protects spindles for motors

Panther has developed corrugated cardboard-based packaging for Caterpillar engines that provides optimum protection for the spindles, some of which are very heavy, thanks to sophisticated compartments. This means that polystyrene can be dispensed with, for example.

One of the global challenges in the coming years will be to curb marine littering. Clean rivers and seas, free of plastic waste, are prompting more and more activities and attempts at solutions. As diverse as the causes of the damage caused so far are, the number of ways to counteract this with ecologically sound solutions is just as great.

The example of new corrugated cardboard packaging for motor spindles is one of them. Panther has new approaches to offer that replace problematic packaging solutions and combat the causes of microplastics in water. One such project was developed for Caterpillar Motoren, a globally renowned company that supplies its customers worldwide with spare parts, including spindles for the various engines that are shipped to ports around the world. The Panther Group has developed packaging for Caterpillar Motoren (under the leadership of Altonaer Wellpappenfabrik) that represents a rethink towards even greater ecological responsibility.

In cooperation with Safe-Pack, Hamburg, a mono-material solution based on corrugated cardboard was created, which optimally protects the high-quality and sometimes very heavy spindles thanks to sophisticated compartments. This means that the transport packaging is stable and can be used flexibly for different spindles and does not require the use of other cushioning materials such as polystyrene. After use, it can therefore be easily returned to the paper and cardboard recycling cycle.

Corrugated board has been proving that the closed-loop concept works for decades. The packaging passed drop tests commissioned by Caterpillar Motoren at the BFSV (Verpackungsinstitut Hamburg GmbH) with flying colors, the result even surpassed that of alternative packaging variants and showed better values than the previous polystyrene solution, it was said. as
