Solid steel chains for horizontal drilling rigs
Tough requirements demand flexible cable drag chains
Tsubaki Kabelschlepp has developed steel energy chains for Prime Drilling's horizontal drilling rig, which enable the trenchless laying of pipelines up to 60" and over a distance of up to 3,000 meters. To enable Prime Drilling to operate as flexibly as possible, the company realized the energy chains as a customer-specific standard solution with short delivery times.
In the drilling rigs, the cable drag chains are attached to the side of the drilling rig's carriage masts and guide or protect the hydraulic hoses. In consultation with the manufacturer, the customer selected S series cable carriers for this purpose. Robust and heat-resistant steel solutions designed for heavy mechanical loads and harsh production environments. In addition, Tsubaki Kabelschlepp developed adapted connection elements that compensate for the additional height of the superstructure web. Last but not least, the developers also adapted the pre-tension of the chain to enable a large unsupported length of chain despite the high cable weight of the hoses. In summary, a customized special solution has been created here, which is normally associated with longer delivery times. Special parts, which were always available in stock, ensured a smooth process. sw
