Cylinder damping on the smartphone
The Cushioning Adjustment Tool (CAT) from Aventics makes it easier to adjust cylinder cushioning. Aventics now also offers an app for the CAT so that customers can better recognize when the optimum condition has been reached.
"Cylinders without effective and adapted damping stress the workpieces to be moved, shorten the service life of all assemblies and generate process-damaging vibrations in the overall machine," explains Norbert Fortmann, Director Engineering R&D Drives at Aventics. Adjustable pneumatic end position damping is therefore the optimal way to achieve good results. When setting the damping with the CAT, just a few turns of the screw are enough to ideally adjust the damping to the workpiece mass and the kinematics.
Additional information on the smartphone
The "Cat by Aventics" app shows the user information on the piston speed and the damping characteristics for the currently set cylinder damping in a graphic. If the cylinder is correctly designed, an ideal damping curve shows a steady decrease in the speed of the cylinder piston after entering the pneumatic end-position damping. However, a curve that is too steep with an abrupt stop or an oscillation into the end position are signs that the damping is not working correctly.
With the CAT and the supplementary app, the good properties of Aventics cylinders can actually be realized when used in the system; incorrect settings are a thing of the past. The CAT is suitable for commissioning and checking the Aventics cylinder series PRA, CSL-RD, MNI, ICL, ITS, TRB and CCL. The tool complements the range of engineering and assembly tools from Aventics. as
