Labeling technology

Forgery-proof RFID

From the raw material to the finished vehicle - in the automotive industry's production process, all components must be recorded. To ensure this, all installed parts are labeled. Schreiner ProTech's RFID solutions enable fully automated recording.

Barcodes are often used to document component information relevant to the manufacturing process. However, reading them is difficult: components such as airbags are often installed in places that are difficult to access for handheld readers or camera reading stations. With RFID technology, component information can be read automatically: Antennas are mounted on the assembly line that automatically read and document information about the component on the way between the stations - for example, which airbag has been installed.

The company Autoliv is now equipping driver airbags for VW with RFID labels. In addition to the identification, an additional requirement is the authenticity of the label: the label cannot be removed non-destructively and placed on another airbag, which could then be falsely marketed as an original. A label variant from Schreiner ProTech's RFID PolyTrack product family solves both of these requirements: It enables reliable labeling and recording via RFID and destroys itself when detached. A particular challenge was that an individual solution had to be developed due to the specified design, also to ensure the legibility of the RFID label despite the metal base of the airbag. pb
