Company anniversary: Pfeiffer Vacuum turns 130

Pfeiffer Vacuum, the company with a long tradition in vacuum technology, is celebrating its 130th anniversary. Science and industry benefit from the numerous innovations that the specialist has developed and brought to market. For example, the turbomolecular pump, which was developed in 1958.

Pioneering spirit and passion characterized the vacuum specialist from the very beginning. When Arthur Pfeiffer founded the company in Wetzlar in 1890, he initially devoted himself to the production of remote gas igniters. After electric light bulbs became established on the market, the company founder quickly reoriented his business: The new lighting technology led him to the vacuum technology solutions used in production. Arthur Pfeiffer quickly recognized the importance that vacuum technology could have for practically all areas of industry and research - and subsequently concentrated fully on this field. Since then, Pfeiffer Vacuum has played a key role in shaping vacuum technology.

Quality for science and research

Even today, Pfeiffer Vacuum products stand for high-tech with reliability and efficient performance. Customers such as the Max Planck Institute, CERN, XFEL and EADS are proof of this reliability - vacuum pumps from the Wetzlar-based manufacturer are even in use on the ISS space station. There, as in many other applications, customer requirements are often very complex - not only in terms of the actual vacuum requirement, but also with regard to the specifics of the respective system, the materials and products to be used or processed and the process conditions. The focus is always on quality. Vacuum solutions from Pfeiffer Vacuum are therefore constantly optimized in close cooperation with customers from various industries and through continuous development work.

Automotive components, smartphones, pacemakers, textiles - vacuum technology is used in all of these products. Solutions from Pfeiffer Vacuum also play a decisive role in food production and pharmaceuticals. Without them, for example, products such as instant coffee or milk powder could not be freeze-dried under vacuum.
According to its own information, the company is the only supplier of vacuum technology to offer a complete product portfolio: from individual components to complex vacuum systems. The range extends from hybrid and magnetically levitated turbopumps to backing pumps, leak detectors, measuring and analysis devices and vacuum chambers and systems. The portfolio also includes a wide range of services. Products and solutions from Pfeiffer Vacuum are developed for the analytical, industrial, research and development, coating and semiconductor segments and are offered in an application-optimized form.
