EL51xx EtherCAT Terminal series
Compact evaluation of incremental signals
The mostly small and cost-effective incremental encoders have become indispensable in many applications. Beckhoff meets this need with the comprehensive EL51xx EtherCAT Terminal series for the evaluation of five-volt incremental encoders with RS422 and TTL signals.
With the addition of four highly compact and powerful I/Os, the evaluation of incremental signals in the controller can now be implemented in an even more space-saving and cost-effective manner. The four new EtherCAT Terminals record incremental signals with high frequencies of up to five megahertz and are equipped with various parameterization options and integrated functions that enable optimum adaptation to the control tasks.
Each individual EtherCAT Terminal offers an integrated sensor supply, parameterizable to five, twelve or 24 volts. Encoders with a differential RS422, 5 V TTL or open collector interface can be connected. Internal pull-up resistors mean that no external wiring is required for open collector evaluation. Additional 24 V digital inputs are used for saving, blocking and setting the counter status. Integrated functions, such as the rotary axis function, workpiece measurement and standstill monitoring, enable data pre-processing directly in the terminal.
The measurement of a period, frequency and speed is also available. A duty cycle measurement of the incoming signal is also implemented. The optional interpolating micro-increment functionality enables even more precise axis positions to be recorded for dynamic axes. The synchronous reading of the position value with other process data in the EtherCAT system is realized via the high-precision distributed clocks of EtherCAT. This allows tasks in the control system to be synchronized easily and precisely. pb
