The award is presented to members who have rendered outstanding services to the electrical industry over many years. Köhler was a member of the Weidmüller Group Executive Board for six years and has been on the Supervisory Board of the Detmold-based family business since 2017. He previously headed the largest division (Precious Metals, Technologies and Materials) of the Heraeus Group.

"The electrical industry has faced and continues to face major challenges - I am pleased that I have been able to contribute to solving these diverse issues from the ZVEI Board in recent years," explained Köhler at the handover. During his time on the Board, he was particularly committed to representing the interests of the electrical industry at international level. He was particularly committed to the topic of Industry 4.0 and corporate and economic policy in Europe. "Europe is the home market of the German electrical industry and is of paramount importance as a sales market," said Dr. Klaus Mittelbach, Chairman of the ZVEI Board of Directors. "Dr. Köhler has been the audible voice of our industry in Brussels for many years and has rendered great services in this regard."

Following his retirement in June 2017, Jörg Timmermann, CEO of the Weidmüller Group, was elected to the ZVEI Executive Board, where he will focus primarily on the challenges posed by digitalization. "Digitalization and other new technologies are creating huge new markets, but also major challenges," says Timmermann. "Platforms will increasingly occupy the interface to the customer in the future. This presents both opportunities and risks for companies. SMEs in particular must redefine their market performance and ecosystem against this backdrop."
