Lapp expands logistics in Ludwigsburg
Merger of the Stuttgart-Möhringen and Ludwigsburg logistics centers
The Lapp Group is planning a comprehensive expansion and modernization of its logistics center in Ludwigsburg near the A8 motorway. Once the construction work has been completed, the approximately 50-year-old logistics center in Stuttgart-Möhringen will be completely relocated to Ludwigsburg.
Growth strategy for cable and connection technology
The measure is the largest single investment in the company's history. Lapp expects to be able to offer all of its current 110 permanent employees a job in Ludwigsburg. "Ludwigsburg will be the hub of our logistics operations throughout Europe. The investment sum is in the high double-digit million range. A clear commitment to Germany and the Stuttgart region as a business location," says Matthias Lapp, CEO of the Lapp Group. "Highly efficient, highly automated, sustainable and with maximum availability for our customers - that is our vision."
As part of the large-scale project, new halls will be built on the existing site and the entire layout will be fundamentally optimized and the level of automation significantly increased. The construction work is due to be completed in 2026.
Integration of the logistics center in Stuttgart-Möhringen
The expansion in Ludwigsburg has an impact on the Lapp Group's oldest logistics center in Stuttgart-Möhringen, just 30 kilometers away. This has been in operation for 50 years and the three-storey building no longer meets the logistical challenges of today. The Management Board of the Lapp Group has therefore decided to start planning the integration into the Ludwigsburg plant. The move is to take place once the construction work there has been completed.
Social responsibility is taken seriously
With the merger, Lapp is fulfilling its social responsibility as a family business: According to current plans, all of the approximately 110 permanent employees who currently work in Stuttgart logistics will be offered a position in Ludwigsburg. "They can expect a modern and ergonomic working environment there. Increased automation means that many manual and physically demanding tasks will be eliminated, but thanks to our growth, there will still be enough work," explains Matthias Lapp. There will be alternatives for employees who do not wish to move to Ludwigsburg, such as further training opportunities or a transfer to other Lapp companies. The details will be discussed with the employee representatives of U.I. Lapp, which owns both logistics centers.
More efficiency and sustainability
In addition to efficiency gains, the merger of the two logistics centers also promises a significant increase in sustainability, according to Matthias Lapp: "Fewer consolidation trips, fewer partial deliveries, shorter transport routes: theCO2 emissions of our logistics processes will be significantly reduced and the volume of traffic in the Stuttgart city area will also decrease."
