Interview with Michael Schlagenhaufer, Conrad Electronic
How Conrad supports Industry 4.0
The shortage of skilled workers is increasing the pressure to automate. Conrad Electronic is responding with strategic partnerships, e-procurement integration and a wide range of products for Industry 4.0 applications. Michael Schlagenhaufer provides details.
What trends in control technology and robotics are you currently seeing among your industrial customers?
Current trends are strongly influenced by artificial intelligence and the need for automation due to a shortage of skilled workers. AI-controlled analyses of sensor data enable predictive maintenance, which reduces downtimes.
Another trend area is human-robot collaboration with the help of cobots. The decisive factor for SMEs is the ease of operation and programming.
In the IIoT and Industry 4.0 sector, the consistent connection of all components is a success factor. Technologies such as Single Pair Ethernet (SPE) play an important role here. Digital twins are also increasingly being used to optimize processes and improve performance.
How does Conrad react to this?
Conrad has evolved from a pure 'box mover' to a strategic solution provider that offers real added value: The aim is to shorten the time-to-market for our customers' new products and automation solutions; we support the digitalization of procurement processes.
And we dynamically adapt our portfolio to the requirements of our customers: In recent years, the Conrad Sourcing Platform range has expanded to include cobots, low-cost robotics and networkable control components for SPE, for example, in order to meet the increasing demand.
We also form strategic alliances with technology start-ups and established manufacturers to offer innovative and easy-to-integrate solutions.
How does Conrad work with partners such as Tektronix, Apem and Arduino? Are there joint automation solutions or training programs?
The full listing of our partners' product ranges is crucial for us in order to be able to offer the complete product spectrum and ensure availability, especially when it comes to new products. With the help of the 'Conrad Sourcing Platform', our partners can reach over two million B2B customers, leverage our brand awareness and quickly tap into new customer groups thanks to the uncomplicated connection.
We have a long-standing partnership with Tektronix. Together we offer Tektronix products in 15 countries, including highlights such as the oscilloscope series 'MSO24' and 'MDO3' or the modular precision test system of the 'MP5000' series. With APEM, Conrad has exclusively launched a 7'' HMI panel that enables many innovative applications.
In terms of Arduino, Conrad is currently the partner with the most product bundles for the new Arduino Uno Q. In addition, we stock the complete Arduino range with correspondingly short delivery times.
What special solutions or services does Conrad Electronic currently offer specifically for automation companies?
A major advantage is our cross-manufacturer range of leading brands and the rapid availability of New Product Introductions (NPIs).
We also enable the integration of our product ranges into our customers' e-procurement systems for a fast and effective supply chain. Our customers also have access to configurators for easy article identification. Various services complement our portfolio: For example, we offer a comprehensive cable assembly service; over 2000 cables and wires also available by the meter and the individual purchase of numerous items.
