Double award

German Innovation Award 2018 for Weidmüller

The Detmold-based electrical engineering company Weidmüller received two German Innovation Awards 2018 in the "Excellence in Business to Business" category at a festive event in Berlin on June 6.

Dr. Markus Köster, Head of Research and Development in the Industrial Analytics division (left), and Tobias Gaukstern, Head of the Industrial Analytics business unit (right), proudly accepted the award for the software solution in Berlin.

The independent jury awarded the Industrial Analytics solution for predictive maintenance and data analysis as well as the campaign for the launch of the new Klippon Connect terminal block portfolio in the "Connectivity" and "Machines & Engineering" categories.

"The award is both an accolade and an incentive for us and proof that we are on the right track with our offering," explains Tobias Gaukstern, Head of the Industrial Analytics business unit. "With Industrial Analytics, Weidmüller has established a solution for data analysis that customers from the mechanical and plant engineering sector can use to drive forward the structural change driven by digitalization and, in particular, to secure and expand their high-margin service business. To this end, Weidmüller has established a new area of expertise with a strong focus on machine learning and artificial intelligence. At the same time, we are supporting our customers in realizing digital innovations themselves."

The second prize of the evening for the Detmold-based family business - the award for Klippon Connect - proves that these innovations don't just have to relate to digitalization. "In the campaign, we not only positioned our latest terminal block innovation, the A-series, on the market in an eye-catching way and with a broad-based communication mix, but also repositioned the existing terminal block portfolio under the term Klippon Connect," explains Arnd Schepmann, Head of the Rail Mounted Components business unit.

This is not the first time Weidmüller has been recognized for its innovative ability. In 2017, the company received the Top 100 Innovation Award as an innovative medium-sized company and the German Brand Award.

Entries for the German Innovation Award are evaluated according to the criteria of innovation level, user benefit and economic efficiency. The innovation strategy should take into account aspects such as social, ecological and economic sustainability and the use of energy and resources. Factors such as location and employment potential, longevity, market maturity, technical quality and function, materiality and synergy effects also play a decisive role in the judging process. kp
