Siemens and Covestro deepen strategic partnership

Siemens and Covestro have concluded a joint business development plan to strategically advance their long-standing partnership, particularly in the area of digitalization.

Siemens and Covestro Deutschland AG deepen strategic partnership in the context of digitalization.

The basis for this is the innovative and sustainability-oriented corporate culture of both companies, they say. The agreement contributes to making life easier and safer with continuous improvements and forward-looking products.

The variety of topics is broad and ranges from the further development of production technologies to the piloting of new ideas that will help shape the digital landscape of both companies.

Dr. Klaus Schäfer, Chief Technology Officer, Member of the Board of Management, Covestro Deutschland AG: "The collaboration with Siemens creates added value for both companies. We are combining the innovative strength of both companies to further extend our lead in these times of rapid development."

One focus of the collaboration is to increase the availability of all assets in a plant and to provide plant personnel with a quick and meaningful basis for making decisions in their work. The aim is to make plants more reliable through proven products and innovative services and to be able to predict developments in the condition of a plant's assets more reliably.

The use of the open, cloud-based IoT operating system MindSphere from Siemens makes new analysis methods possible. Essential data and measured variables are collected on this platform, placed in a meaningful context and intelligently linked in data models. Smart data applications support operation and maintenance. They make it possible to predict potential faults in an asset or individual components and help to minimize plant downtimes. Data analytics and simulation methods offer new possibilities. On this basis, the partnership is evaluating the benefits that can be achieved by correlating data for production for various use cases, for example.

By exchanging know-how, we can support plant operation and maintenance with the right information at the right time, especially with smart data for production, plant equipment and instrumentation."

Siemens is developing predictive process data models for production that minimize downtime, among other things, as well as mobile devices for use in the field and software solutions that can communicate with process technology, the control system or management systems. Covestro is also contributing its process and production technology expertise to the marketing of joint solutions. kp
