ebm-papast at the Motek 2023
Powerful motor for individual drive systems
From October 10 to 13, 2023, ebm-papst will be presenting new drive solutions in Hall 7, Stand 7317, including the modular drive system for automation in a new performance class.
ebm-papst has now expanded its existing ECI drive series to cover even higher outputs in automation. The new BLDC motors based on the internal rotor principle in safety extra-low voltage (24/48 volts DC) with a diameter of 80 millimeters and a rated output of up to 750 watts can be individually combined with different modules to create a complete drive system. Housed in a robust metal housing, it meets the requirements of protection class IP54 as standard.
Modular drive system with new performance class
The modular drive system includes planetary gears with different reduction ratios as well as encoder and brake modules. Hall sensors for rotor position detection are currently integrated for operation with a remote drive controller, and further electronic modules that can be integrated, such as speed or position controllers with optional bus interface, will follow.
Modular system enables individual drive systems
Long waiting times for the perfect drive system were not uncommon in the past, as individual solutions often had to be developed first. With the modular drive system from ebm-papst, drive solutions can be implemented quickly and individually. The individual drive modules can be put together using standardized interfaces. Similar to a construction kit, it is possible to assemble the motor with the appropriate power, brake, encoder, electronics and planetary, helical or angular gearbox online in a very short time.
Intelligent drives with EtherCAT interface
EtherCAT combines the advantages of Ethernet-based communication with the simplicity of classic fieldbus systems, which means that complex IT solutions can be avoided. Within the ECI series from ebm-papst, drives, for example in the modular drive system size 63, with integrated BUS interface are already established under the term K5 electronics functionality. Now the internal rotor motors can also be addressed via EtherCAT. High-performance interface electronics have been added to the drive housing for this purpose.
The main advantages of decentralized drives are the synchronization of several axes, the reduced integration effort and a space-saving design in the machine.
