Various assistance functions
Modular assistance system
Fraunhofer has presented XTEND. The assistance system combines the advantages of various input and output systems and expands the user's physical working environment with process-related digital (additional) information in the immediate vicinity of the work area.
It is multimodal, manufacturer-neutral and intuitive in every requirement area. It supports the assembly process itself, as well as the creation of multimedia assembly instructions and the maintenance of machines and systems. In this system, hand movements are recorded (tracked) directly and without markers using depth cameras for the first time.
If desired, the user can work without any additional hardware. XTEND relies on various innovative assistance functions to provide employees with targeted and efficient support in their working environment. Depending on the application, the assistance functions can be used anywhere and are not tied to stationary workstations. Depending on the context of use, the modular design allows various components to be flexibly combined to support the user. Wearables, AR data glasses or eye trackers can be combined. To facilitate the introduction of new products and production steps in the workplace, new instructions can be created without additional programming effort.
Existing workstation configurations, such as the arrangement of material bins, can be flexibly adapted to new work situations using Auto-ID processes such as RFID. Workstations can also be configured by teaching in tracking areas of depth sensors using drag & drop and intuitively adjusting projections on the work surface. XTEND enables the on-the-job training of employees in the areas of assembly, maintenance and repair. pb
