Post-processing at Formnext

Annina Schopen,

On the way to series production with post-processing

As an expert in industrial post-processing solutions, AM Solutions will be presenting two new products at Formnext as well as further developments of existing solutions.

The company AM Solutions - 3D post processing technology. will be presenting two new products at its stand in Frankfurt, as well as proven, enhanced post processing solutions, such as the S1 as a 2-in-1 solution for cleaning and surface finishing of polymer parts, the S2 as a solution for series production, which ensures uniform cleaning and surface homogenization of plastic parts in a continuous process, the S1 Wet as a wet blasting solution, especially for cleaning and surface finishing of AM metal parts and the C1, which removes support/resin from photopolymers more efficiently and significantly faster than standard market solutions thanks to coordinated thermal and mechanical processes.

Streamlining the process chain

"We are always thinking further in the direction of series production. With our 2-in-1 principle, we reproduce two process steps in just one machine, thereby significantly streamlining the process chain, increasing automation and ultimately reducing unit costs significantly. In this way, we are addressing a pain point for companies that are considering series production using 3D printing technology," explains David Soldan, Head of AM Solutions at Soldan.

One example of this is the Italian service company Weerg, which not only saved considerable investment in additional machines and production space by using an S1, but was also able to reduce the processing time for 3D printed products by over 60 percent. In addition, significantly more parts that previously had to be reworked manually due to their size and sensitivity can now be processed automatically. As a result, the proportion of automatically processed components has risen from 60 to 90 percent.

Chemical smoothing and dyeing in one process step

The new C2, which combines chemical surface smoothing and coloring of AM plastic parts in just one process step, is also based on the 2-in-1 principle. "Our goal is always to realize the optimal solution for the tasks of our customers and the market, and to generate decisive added value compared to existing market solutions. That's why we took the necessary time during the development of the C2 to create the perfect process from the customer's point of view: efficient, economical, space-saving and at the same time harmless and safe," says Soldan.

In addition to the C2, AM Solutions is presenting the new and compact M4. It is suitable for surface finishing, such as grinding, smoothing or polishing, of small and medium-sized metal and plastic parts - regardless of the printing technology. The compact system is designed on the plug-and-play principle, eliminating the need for time-consuming on-site assembly. The processing system and process water treatment are combined in one system in a smart way, offering optimum ease of use including easy-to-understand machine control. The integrated process water circuit with cleaning centrifuge (incl. waste water and fresh water tank) does not require a separate connection to fresh water or waste water. In addition, thanks to the reusable process liquid, it enables resource-saving and therefore more economical operation.
