With the second distribution center at the Wustermark site near Berlin, dm is responding to the growing product range and increasing demands in the area of small items and decorative cosmetics. The drugstore group is relying on TGW Logistics for the implementation. The new facility is scheduled for completion by 2029 and will combine a shuttle system, bag sorter and automated picking.

Robotics as a key technology

The core of the system is a shuttle system with 190,000 storage locations. After goods are received, the items are automatically stored and retrieved when the stores place their orders. 30 RovoFlex robots then load the hanging pockets of the pocket sorter fully automatically. After sequencing, the orders from the stores arrive in the dispatch area, where they are distributed to the various truck routes.

Internal transportation is handled by a fleet of 70 mobile Quba robots, which navigate to their destination autonomously and without human intervention. TGW's WERX software plans, controls and monitors all processes as a Warehouse Control System (WCS).

Showcase project for the drugstore sector

"This is a unique solution for the drugstore segment that sets new standards. With our intralogistics expertise and a highly automated, robot-based system, we contribute to supplying the dm store network quickly, efficiently and reliably," emphasizes Martin Waldenberger, Chief Sales Officer of the Customer Unit Central Europe at TGW Logistics.
