Avalanche photodiodes for the NIR range

The silicon avalanche photodiodes from First Sensor were developed for the near infrared (NIR) wavelength range. They are suitable for use in lidar systems in driver assistance systems, drones, safety laser scanners, 3D surveying and robotics.

With the 9 series, First Sensor offers a wide range of silicon avalanche photodiodes (APDs) with high sensitivity in the near infrared (NIR) wavelength range, especially at 905 nanometers. Thanks to their internal amplification mechanism, wide dynamic range and fast rise time, APDs are ideal for lidar systems for optical distance measurement and object detection using the time-of-flight method. Examples of applications include driver assistance systems, drones, safety laser scanners, 3D surveying and robotics.

Series 9 offers photodiodes as single elements as well as line and matrix arrays with multiple active sensor areas. The housing options include robust TO housings or flat SMD ceramic housings. The slow increase in gain of the avalanche photodiodes with reverse voltage allows precise and easy adjustment of a high gain factor.

Hybrid solutions are also available for particularly small amounts of light, which additionally amplify the APD signal with an internal transimpedance amplifier (TIA). The integrated amplifier is optimally matched to the photodiode and allows compact setups and very large signal-to-noise ratios.

Thanks to its own semiconductor production and extensive development capacities, First Sensor can adapt its silicon avalanche photodiodes to special customer-specific requirements, for example in terms of sensitivity, gain, rise time or design. as
