Expansion targets
Schmersal expands exports in India
Schmersal wants to expand the export activities of the production plant in Ranjangaon over the next few years. The first step has been taken: the plant's expanded "Export Oriented Unit" has just been opened.
The Schmersal Group 's production plant in Ranjangaon (Pune)/India has already been successful over the past eight years. After the Indian subsidiary was founded in 2007, Schmersal started its own production in 2012/2013. The main aim was to supply global players in mechanical engineering - such as the textile machinery industry - with safety switches and safety systems for their local production facilities and service requirements. The local sales department quickly gained numerous Indian machine manufacturers as customers. Today, the plant employs around 120 people who produce several series of electromechanical safety switches for the local market and for export.
Export activities are to be expanded on a large scale over the next few years. The first step towards this goal has been taken: the plant's expanded "Export Oriented Unit" (EOU) has just been opened. This refers to an Indian government program that promotes export activities and, in particular, grants tax relief and reduced administrative costs.
Schmersal's Indian production plant is already benefiting from these advantages, albeit on a modest scale to begin with. Sagar Bhosale, Managing Director of Schmersal India: "We started in 2018 with a single EOU production line on a limited area of 221 square meters, producing electromechanical safety switchgear. However, after just one year, we have already added two more production lines."
The current business plan envisages rapid growth in exports. The space to realize these plans is now available: The expanded EOU area, covering almost 1,000 square meters, was opened as part of an online inauguration ceremony. From now on, two or three new production lines will be set up and put into operation here every year. The production program includes further safety switch series, as well as several position switch series and elevator switching devices. as
