Safety relays for Triconex safety controls
Weidmüller has designed its SCS 24VDC P1SIL3DS I safety relay for use with Triconex safety controllers from Schneider Electric.
The safety relay is insensitive to the test impluse of the Triconex output modules and therefore works completely reliably with the Triconex safety controllers. Schneider Electric documents the approval in Triconex Technical Application Note #48, Revision 5, where it is currently the only one listed. A corresponding proof of compatibility is available for use with the Tricon, Trident and Tri-GP systems. The new safety relay has been certified by TÜV Nord as an Approved Safety Function. It therefore meets the requirements of EN 61508 up to SIL 3 (Safety Integrity Level) and thus complies with international requirements.
The safety relay is used for the safety-related shutdown of systems in the process industry (DTS = de-energized to safe), i.e. functional safety. The aim of functional safety measures is to reduce risks to people and the environment to a tolerable level.
The safety relay SCS 24VDC P1SIL3DS I operates in the input circuit with a test pulse filter and three relays connected in parallel. The relay contacts are connected in series in the output. This ensures safety shutdown even if the contacts stick. The relay contact circuit is protected against overload and short circuit by a five-ampere miniature fuse. The fuse is accessible via the front of the housing and can be replaced quickly on site without opening the housing. Appropriate connections are provided for the use of an external fuse. The Relay Output status LED is located on the front of the device. The LED lights up yellow when the input circuit of the device is activated. The status LED does not indicate the electrical switching status at the device output.
The SCS 24VDC P1SIL3DS I safety relay offered by Weidmüller is part of the Safeseries and is used for the emergency shutdown of systems and system components in the process industry. TÜV Nord certified the safety relay in accordance with EN 61508 SIL3 as an approved safety function. The safety relay also has a UL listing.
The maximum switching voltage in the safety circuit at the output is 250 volts AC/30 volts DC, the maximum switching current is five amps and the maximum contact switching capacity is 2,000 VA. Measuring 114.1 x 22.5 x 117.3 millimetres, the safety relay has a compact design and therefore requires little space on the TS35 DIN mounting rail in the switch cabinet. Conductors with a cross-sectional area of 0.13 to 2.5 square millimetres (AWG 26 ... 14) can be connected via a vibration-proof screw connection and the safety relay is fully operational in a wide temperature range from minus 25 to plus 50 degrees Celsius. The EN 61508 (functional safety) and EN 61326-1, EN 61326-3-1 and EN 61326-3-2 versions are used as the standard. as
