Supporting day-to-day production at a distance

Digital communication and processes can never completely replace personal contact. However, the current coronavirus pandemic proves just how helpful virtual solutions can be when face-to-face meetings suddenly become impossible. KHS provides customers with digital solutions such as the ReDiS remote maintenance system, basic line monitoring for efficient production processes and augmented reality services.

For many companies, the current restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic mean that common on-site services such as maintenance or servicing can only be carried out to a limited extent or not at all. The consequences can be fatal: Downtime, production stoppages, loss of productivity and turnover as well as considerable additional costs for maintaining production capability. To avert these negative consequences, KHS offers a range of digital solutions that were already in place before the pandemic. These include the Remote Diagnostic Service ReDiS - a remote maintenance system for KHS machines and systems. It enables technicians to access approved KHS components worldwide quickly, easily and securely at any time via network connections.

The Dortmund-based system provider offers the web-based Innoline MES module Basic Line Monitoring (BLM) for the digital monitoring of entire lines. The system assesses line efficiency and identifies any faults. BLM thus helps to make ramp-up more efficient and also makes it easier for the customer to quickly identify any weak points in the operation of the line.

With today's highly complex machines, additional support for troubleshooting is often helpful. KHS has responded to this challenge with the Augmented Reality Service (ARS), an audiovisual solution. The operator wears data goggles that allow him to get a precise picture of the situation on site. The glasses allow objects to be marked or displayed for the operator from the KHS control center. The necessary work can then be carried out in real time while the KHS expert follows the process virtually. In addition, images or entire video sequences can be transmitted and clear instructions given by means of simultaneous audio communication. ARS is compatible with data glasses from various manufacturers.

During the restrictions imposed by the pandemic, the importance of ARS for customer support increased steadily. For example, format conversions were carried out for a customer in Greece. The ramp-up phase of a returnable glass line in Mozambique also took place. Even the installation and commissioning of complete lines were implemented, for example a high-speed canning line in Nigeria. pb
