Automotive painting
Flexible painting according to customer requirements
Individual paintwork to customer specifications is easily possible in the new Lamborghini paint shop. Each body is coated individually according to the customer's wishes. This is normally an extremely difficult and cost-intensive undertaking in the serial production of cars. In the Lamborghini paint shop currently under construction at the company's headquarters in Sant'Agata Bolognese, Italy, the Urus model, the company's new SUV, will in future be painted in a Smart Paint Shop in the spirit of Industry 4.0.
A revolutionary system layout and intelligent system control with the E-MES production control system pave the way for highly flexible series production with batch size 1.
The system is set to revolutionize classic automotive painting: away from the rigid line principle and towards highly flexible workshop production with line elements. This means that currently available production resources such as dryers or certain paint booths can be used efficiently, even if different paint variants or components made from different materials are produced on the system at the same time.
The layout and design of the system form the basis for the paint shop's high degree of flexibility. However, E-MES, the production control system from Eisenmann Industrial Software Company (Enisco), is at the heart of the system. "With E-MES, we have succeeded in paving the way for painting a wide variety of car bodies, materials and end customer-specific surfaces in a single system," explains Werner Gruber, Managing Director of Enisco. "For a long time, systems were optimized for standardized processes with high throughputs. Now series production with batch size 1 is possible".
The paint shop for the Urus will be completed at the end of the year. In addition to the E-MES production control system, Eisenmann is supplying the sealing including material supply, the top coat booths with the E-Cube deposition system, the dryers, a high-bay warehouse, conveyor technology and the workstations. top coat application is being used for the first time at the VW Group, naturally in combination with the paint supply. The VarioBell is used for this. Thanks to direct charging, this bell can be used for both interior and exterior painting, as well as for painting plastic and metal components. This means that the various painting processes can be covered with just one bell, in line with the principle of highly flexible workshop production.
"We understand Industry 4.0 as the optimal combination of flexible hardware, intelligent software and digital services, which together enable maximum customer benefit. We were able to apply this combination at Lamborghini by utilizing all the synergies of the Eisenmann company," says
Werner Gruber. kp
